Rose Cottage Wairarapa is a spacious four-bedroom holiday home, designed for groups of up to 10 guests to enjoy time together while still having plenty of room to spread out. Just over an hour from Wellington, it’s your gateway to a relaxing country escape.
Cook for everyone in the galley style kitchen

Gather in the large open-plan living and dining area, or find your own space — whether it’s the sunny enclosed verandah, under a tree in the orchard, the attic playroom, or the games garage with foosball and table tennis.
The well-equipped kitchen and Weber BBQ make cooking a pleasure, whether you’re preparing a family feast or sharing casual meals with friends. In summer, cool off in the outdoor pool (Labour Day to Easter) or sip a drink on the gin deck as the sun sets. Kids can roam the orchard, search for frogs by the pond, and play spotlight under the stars. In winter, soak in the outdoor bath beneath the night sky or curl up by the fire with a glass of local wine.
Perfectly located in the heart of South Wairarapa, Rose Cottage is a wonderful base for exploring Martinborough’s vineyards, Greytown’s boutiques, Featherston’s bookshops, and the wild beauty of Lake Ferry.
At Rose Cottage, there’s space for everyone — and endless ways to create lasting holiday memories.

Rose Cottage is the passion project of the Cole family - with lots of help along the way from our friends. Our goal was to create a space where we could do some large scale tree and orchard planting, as well as creating the ideal escape for our friends and family from Wellington city. You can read about our story here
We're pleased to be able to share our passion with you and hope you will create wonderful memories with your own friends and family.
Are dogs welcome?
Yes - dogs (and cats!) are welcome. Let us know your pets needs and we can advise whether our property is suitable. We ask that dogs stay off the furniture.
How many people can Rose Cottage sleep?
We regularly host up to 10 people. If you have a couple of extra kids then please talk to us as we may be able to make special arrangements.
When is the pool available? Is it heated?
The pool is always available for swimming from Labour weekend in late October to Easter weekend. Outside those dates, please check with us if you're thinking you want to use the swimming pool. The pool is not heated.
Can we use the wood burner fireplace?
Yes, a fire lends a wonderful cosy atmosphere and you are encouraged to use the wood burner fireplace. We have electric heating as well, but the fire is super efficient and will keep the cottage toasty warm throughout your winter stay. We can help with tips to get started - we know not everyone is used to lighting a fire.
Do you have air conditioning for summer?
We have five fans available for your use (one in each bedroom and 1 in the living area). The house has extended verandahs and excellent insulation - it was built for Wairarapa conditions and stays surprisingly comfortable year-round.
Can we have our work party, wedding, hens or stags night here?
No. Rose Cottage has a strict "no events" policy. While we encourage you to have fun and enjoy yourselves, we are a country property and ask that you respect that vibe. Our neighbours will quickly let us know if there is excessive noise or extra guests arriving. We will seek damages, including for breach of contract, if required.
We do welcome families and friends staying to (quietly) celebrate birthdays, as long as the attendees are kept to those staying at the property and the noise levels are consistent with the rural vibe. We've hosted lots of inter-generational family groups coming together to mark milestone birthdays, and are pleased that the cottage has helped people share so many special moments.
*A note on the outdoor bath and shower: the outdoor bath and shower have hot and cold water but are for the more adventurous. You''ll need to be okay with connecting and disconnecting the hoses to the outside taps. Everything is explained in the guest guide, and the taps and hoses are labelled.
